Client: Gone Surfing Hawaii

Gone Surfing Hawaii is a surf school offering everything from lessons to custom island tours, giving clients the opportunity to build unforgettable experiences while here on Oahu.

Upon meeting Jojo Howard, GSH owner and instructor, she was looking to the future of her surf school — looking for a brand refresh to help expand her already successful business and help approach high-end hotels in the area to develop vendor partnerships. As the face of her company, any new branding needed to match Jojo’s approachability and high sense of quality and professionalism.





Our journey with Gone Surfing Hawaii began with Brand Analysis — researching everything from GSH’s beginnings, client interaction, and competition comparison, to where they wanted to take their brand as a company. And, lucky us, research and development included getting first-hand surf lessons from the dynamic instructors at GSH!





In the next phase, all research was brought together and Gone Surfing Hawaii’s story was shaped into visual options. Concepts were developed into logo studies from sketches to full color logo variations which were then presented to GSH.




An important touch point for building and maintaining client relationships was in the development of print collateral and website redesign. Branded brochures introduced their new brand to potential clients, while note and postcards helped GSH stay in contact with clients. Addressing Jojo’s goal to approach hotels with information about her services, we designed her stationery to be compiled into a press kit: a presentation folder holding brochures, waterproof business cards, letterhead, note cards, etc. And as many of her current and new clients find her via the web, giving the GSH website a refreshed look reflecting their new brand was especially important.




To offer clients a feeling of exclusivity and the opportunity to take home more than just the surf experience, we developed wearables and accessories for the GSH brand. Apparel like shirts, tank tops, trucker hats, and rash guards as well as high-end microfiber towels do triple duty, satisfying clients with souvenirs, instructors with professional company-wear, and by being wearable (and hangable) advertising.
