Client: Hawaii State Federal Credit Union

Hawaii State FCU, as a federal credit union, is a not-for-profit financial cooperative owned and operated by its members. Through the years they built upon their valuable services and developed great relationships with their members. However, in a sea of local credit unions, Hawaii State FCU wanted help setting themselves apart and letting Hawaii know exactly what they had to offer.

Partnering with Hawaii State FCU on their rebrand meant getting a complete view of who they are from the inside out. We gathered information from every source available to us including interviews with credit union employees, members and even non-members; workshops geared to define brand personality and goals; and visits to every branch location.

After in-depth research establishing their strength in personal relationships, 1013 began a visual study into the client’s brand mark and accompanying key driver. Concepts softened Hawaii State FCU’s cool corporate feel to warmer, friendlier variants. Approaching it as a recommitment to credit union members, the process came to evolve their previous logo paying homage to their history and relationship with members.

Beyond the logo mark itself, both website redesign and developing a grid system to implement the new brand elements became key. We worked hand-in-hand with Hawaii State FCU’s designer to address the many current and future print collateral needs with a designed manual, templates, and design assistance. And together with their marketing and interactive teams, the whole website was tackled from copy to design.

Before and after the launch, we worked with Hawaii State FCU on signage and consulted on the environmental design that would be needed at their locations. Helping them get a start that set the ball rolling for each new design element.
